  • Overview

    Underwriting Vice President, at AmTrust E&S is responsible for planning, controlling, organizing and directing the underwriting operations for the E&S professional liability division. The individual will be responsible for developing and executing the segment’s strategy to achieve profit, quality, growth, diversification, and operational objectives. The candidate will develop and maintain effective external relationships with brokers and clients which fully promote and represent the AmTrust brand.


    • Spearhead growth and expansion of the company’s E&S professional lines segment. Develop and execute the segment strategy to achieve profit, quality, growth, product development / diversification, and operational objectives; monitor execution against stated appetite and address gaps in performance. Participates in corporate strategic planning.
    • Identify target markets and opportunities. Develop new products and programs, including conducting market and competitor research, crafting underwriting guidelines, forms and rates to ensure that products are competitive from a pricing and coverage standpoint and assures that products are in compliance with all insurance laws, regulations and Company
    • Marketing and Communications. Ability to sell and negotiate to achieve bottom line profitability for the Company. Ability to make presentations and communicate articulately. Ability to base communications on strategic thinking. Ability to manage producer strategy
    • Ensure underwriting team focuses efforts on sources of profitable growth, renewal portfolio management, multi-line accounts and building underwriting expertise within their teams
    • Drives underwriting team to develop strong market facing relationships and manage personal brand with key brokers/customers through effective communication of appetite, consistent risk selection, responsiveness, creativity, and negotiations.
    • Seek advancements in business processes and technologies to gain operating efficiencies, cost savings and competitive advantages.
    • Recruit, train and develop underwriting personnel, including underwriters, assistant underwriters, and support staff. Manage and mentor underwriting staff to ensure that profitability, growth, customer service, file quality and staff productivity objectives are met. Organize, assign and direct workflow. Provide frequent and specific constructive feedback to staff and resolve personnel issues.



    • Minimum 15 years experience in Professional Liability, with knowledge of the broader complex surplus lines commercial property and casualty marketplace.  Proven underwriting group leadership experience, and track record working through wholesale brokers.
    • Requires extensive professional liability underwriting expertise including coverage for: Allied Healthcare, Insurance Agents E&O, Consultants E&O, Brokers E&O, Lawyers E&O, Accountants E&O, Engineers E&O, Architects E&O, Financial Services E&O, Construction E&O, Directors & Officers E&O, etc.
    • Very strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport and teamwork, resolve conflicts, and motivate staff members to achieve company, departmental and individual objectives. Must be able to interact with other departments, personnel, and external parties at all levels within and outside of the company.
    • Proficiency in data management and quantitative analysis, including the utilization of market and underwriting data to make sound risk management decisions.
    • Strong Organizational and Time Management Skill
    • Bachelor’s degree and CPCU, CIC or other advanced insurance education preferred.
