  • Overview

    Responsible for underwriting and servicing complex surety bonds. Also is responsible for business development through marketing calls and participation in industry associations and functions


    • Reviews and evaluates initial and renewal submissions; including credit, and makes decisions regarding underwriting of account
    • Reviews and evaluates rates and forms for adequacy
    • Reviews premium audits
    • Prepares appropriate correspondence and other documentation in compliance with Company policies and federal and state rules and regulations
    • Evaluates, approves and appoints agents and brokers as producers
    • About 40% field work traveling a state or multi-state territory working with producers including prospecting, appointing, and terminating appointment contracts
    • Responsible for training producers on products and automation platform(s) and marketing communications


    • Bachelor’s Degree from a college or university is required
    • 5+ years of related underwriting experience in Property and Casualty insurance
    • 7 years commercial underwriting experience, and either a current professional insurance designation such as AU, CIC, CPCU, or equivalent, or a current agent license, may be substituted for this educational and experience requirement
    • Must be detailed oriented, organized, and possess strong analytical and interpersonal skills
    • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications and ability to learn new software programs
    • Ability to adhere to strict time deadlines and underwriting standards
    • Must possess effective managerial abilities and excellent communication skills
    • Strong organizational skills with an ability to plan, prioritize, and execute tasks in an efficient manner without sacrificing quality and accuracy
