  • Overview

    Amtrust is looking for a Property Claims Adjuster in California. The Property Claims Adjuster will work  under limited supervision, the Property Claims Adjuster is responsible for handling first party commercial lines property claims that are of high complexity and/or severity from beginning to end.


    • The Property Claims Specialist maintains timely and professional communication with all interested parties; including, but not limited to our insured, our insured’s representative, contractors and consultants, independent adjusting firms, agents and producers.
    • Reviews and analyzes policy forms applicable to the loss.  Interprets coverage that may or may not apply to the claim. 
    • Investigates claims while exercising discretion and judgment in determining the facts, coverage, claim value, negotiating strategy, reserve levels, and other considerations in resolving a claim.  Applies facts, as determined by the investigation, to the law of the local jurisdiction and properly evaluates exposure.
    • Develops and executes resolution plans to include minimizing customer complaints and the potential of litigation. In the event of litigation, effectively works with defense counsel and actively monitors and manages the litigation plan. Minimizes loss cost through identification of subrogation and prompt disposition.
    • Completes Large Loss Reports to notify upper management of the exposure.  Communicates with agents, insureds, claimants, and company personnel, keeping them apprised of appropriate information. Discusses possible coverage issues with supervisor and drafts coverage positions as applicable. 
    • Proficient in the use of Xactimate for developing damage estimates, as well as validating estimates written by contractors and restoration companies.
    • Directs outside vendors and experts retained to assist in the claim investigation, and closely controls claim costs.  Establishes loss and expense reserves while controlling and managing claim related expenses. 
    • Seeks appropriate guidance and communicates pursuant to authority structure. Determines and fulfills reporting requirements to supervisor/manager, Home Office, SIU, client companies and reinsurers.
    • May be required to assist in adjusting catastrophe claims, as needed, to satisfy customer needs.



    • Experience handling large commercial property losses across multiple coverage exposures. 
    • Experience using Xactimate for estimating or validating third party estimates. 
    • Experience managing claim litigation.
    • Knowledgeable of construction terms and techniques, including but not limited to roofing, electrical, plumbing, air conditioning, concrete/masonry, etc.  
    • Experience calculating Business Income loss, Insurance to Value and Co-Insurance. 
    • Regional travel will be required. 
    • A minimum of seven years of experience handling large commercial first party property claims is required. 
    • CA Earthquake Certification and licensing in other states is a plus.
    • Where applicable, must successfully complete licensing and/or certification requirements in compliance with state regulations and laws.
    • Xactimate estimating software knowledge is required and proficiency in Word and Excel is necessary.
    • CPCU, AIC, AIS credentials are an added bonus.
