PDP Group, a division of AmTrust Financial, is searching for a Computer Operator.  Shift is Mon - Fri. 11pm - 7:30am.  (Off Sat morning)


Basic Job Purpose:

This position will be a technical expert in computer systems support, and IT operations support. The successful candidate acts independently under general direction. The candidate will provide IT support for operations of the PDP primary data center. Analyzes and revises existing systems documentation as necessary. Has technical knowledge and proficiency in various phases of troubleshooting, as well as general IT operations functions.  Operates computer and peripheral equipment to process data by performing the below listed essential duties and responsibilities.  AS400 experience required.



Essential job duties:

  • Support the IT operations and system support needs of the Data Center and associated business units
  • Monitor IT operations jobs on the IBMi (iSeries) and Intel Server platforms and provide general IT support for business operations across all IT shifts
  • Work on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors
  • Devises, modifies, and implements procedures to solve complex problems considering computer equipment capacity and limitations of operating time windows
  • Troubleshoot problems that arise with data center and business unit equipment such as: Personal Computers, Printers, Network routers, Telephones, Servers, etc.
  • Enters commands and presses buttons and flips switches on computer and peripheral equipment such as tape drive, printer, and data communications equipment, to integrate and operate equipment.
  • Loads peripheral equipment with selected materials such as tapes and printer paper for operating runs, or oversees loading of peripheral equipment by peripheral equipment operators.
  • Ensures operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements and tests; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques.
  • Observes peripheral equipment and error messages displayed on monitor of terminal to detect faulty output or machine stoppage.
  • Enters commands to correct error or stoppage and resume operations.
  • Documents problems and actions by completing production logs.
  • Notifies supervisor/manager of errors or equipment stoppage.
  • Maintains supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies.
  • Clears equipment at end of operating run and reviews schedule to determine next assignment.
  • Delivers boxes of paper, toner and ink cartridges.
  • Records problems which occurred, such as down time, and actions taken.
  • Answers telephone calls to assist computer users encountering problem.
  • Assists workers in classifying, cataloging, and maintaining tapes.
  • Serve as backup to cover for all shifts (1st, 2nd & 3rd) as needed.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Maintains client confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Must be able to pick up (30-50) pounds.
  • Other duties may be assigned as necessary.




  • One year certificate from college or technical school;
  • High school diploma;



  • Entry level to (3) three to (6) six months related experience and/or training;
