Overview

PDP Group, a division of AmTrust Financial, is searching for a LAN Administrator in our IT Department. Shift is 8:30am to 5:00pm.

 

Summary:  Under general supervision achieves maximum availability of the Local Area Network through effective planning, design, and installation of equipment and facilities.  Helps develop and provide specifications for, select, and install new equipment and facilities.  Troubleshoots Local Area Network problems covering a variety of computer and communications hardware and software.  Develops and prepares reports about the utilization levels of the Local Area Network, down time, and response time at the end-user level.  Provides technical and training support on automated systems.  Installs, configures, and troubleshoots local area computer networks and associated assemblies by performing the following duties.

 

 

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. 

 

LAN positions at all levels have many similar duties.  Differences between levels are based on experience requirements, expected performance levels, degree of supervision, assigned project sizes, complexity, and accountability. 

  • Performs analysis of network needs and contributes to design of network architecture, integration, and installation.
  • Installs and maintains local area network hardware and software, including servers, peripherals, network nodes, terminals, and wiring.
  • Evaluates local area network hardware and software requirements and capabilities and makes recommendations.
  • Coordinates installation of hardware and software by others.
  • Provides support to and trains users in local area network administration and usage.
  • Monitors and maintains network stability.
  • Communicates and coordinates network schedule, backups, and downtime to users.
  • Coordinates third-party maintenance for network hardware, software, and telecommunications services.
  • Prepares and maintains documentation of network configurations and cabling layouts.
  • Documenting the Local Area Network in an organized, up-to-date format.
  • Creating and maintaining efficient file server structure.
  • Backing up the system in an orderly manner.
  • Create menus and login scripts for less experienced users.
  • Provide ongoing upgrades to the software.
  • Documentation of the network system.
  • Maintaining the network security and all associated tasks.
  • Managing network and local print jobs.
  • Designing menus within the LAN menu system.
  • Maintains orderly appearance in own work area at all times.
  • Represents PDP Group in a professional manner.
  • May work directly with outside contacts, users, vendors, etc.
  • Works on multiple systems platforms (i.e., AS/400, PC, etc).
  • Development of procedures as related to position.

Qualifications

Education/Experience:

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Emphasis in PC related hardware and software.
