The staff accountant assists with records, monitoring, analyzing and reconciling general ledger accounts.  Their primary focus is to perform reconciliations and analysis over assigned accounts.  In addition, ensuring accounts are recorded in accordance with GAAP and STAT accounting policies and are SOX compliant.  


Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Various duties related to monthly closing, balance sheet and income statement account reconciliations, and ad hoc projects for both insurance and noninsurance operations
  • Assists in the preparation of quarterly and annual GAAP/SEC financial statements
  • Assists in the preparation of quarterly and annual statutory financial statements
  • Recommend process improvements discovered during the reconciliation process
  • Assist in data compilation and preparation of exhibits and schedules for external auditors at each quarter or as requested
  • Develops reports in support of financial analysis and reporting
  • Reviews processes and procedures to ensure Sarbanes Oxley compliance and makes recommendations to improve efficiencies and controls.


  • Bachelor’s or higher degree in accounting or finance
  • Strong understanding of accounting theory
  • 1+ years accounting/finance experience
  • Insurance industry, preferred
  • Public accounting/”Big 4”, preferred
  • CPA designation preferred, but not required
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications and ability to learn new software programs
