Overview

 

Join a team where you'll have the authority to make meaningful underwriting decisions and build a profitable nonprofit portfolio. In this role, you'll evaluate complex risks, determine pricing and coverage strategies, and partner closely with agents and brokers to drive growth and profitability. You'll also help shape the future of our nonprofit product offerings through market research, business development, and form enhancements. As a senior team member, you'll mentor underwriters at all levels, support departmental initiatives, and contribute to the development of underwriting talent across the organization
 
This role can be based out of any AmTrust office; however, preferred locations include Melville, NY; Latham, NY; Alpharetta, GA; Overland Park, KS; Dallas, TX; Chicago, IL; Cleveland, OH; or Scottsdale, AZ.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Underwrite and manage a profitable portfolio of nonprofit middle market accounts.
  • Build strong relationships with agents and brokers serving nonprofit organizations.
  • Evaluate and underwrite new and renewal business within company guidelines.
  • Analyze risks, pricing, coverage, endorsements, and exclusions.
  • Monitor market trends and identify new business opportunities.
  • Achieve production, profitability, and loss ratio goals.
  • Resolve complex underwriting and coverage issues.
  • Manage policy maintenance and mid-term service requests.
  • Review Loss Control recommendations and ensure compliance.
  • Support training, marketing initiatives, and regional underwriting efforts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

 

 
  • Education: Bachelor's degree preferred; equivalent experience considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Designations: CPCU, CIC, AU, ARM, CPIW, CWIS, ASLI, or similar insurance coursework preferred.
  • Experience: 2-5 years of underwriting experience, including 1-2 years in nonprofit underwriting.
  • Knowledge: Understanding of nonprofit underwriting practices, insurance law, and underwriting/marketing principles.
  • Communication: Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Negotiation: Advanced negotiation and relationship management skills.
  • Risk Assessment: Ability to analyze complex insurance risks, policy language, and account exposures.
  • Portfolio Management: Experience managing a book of business, including monitoring aggregates.
  • Problem Solving: Ability to develop and implement solutions for complex business challenges.
  • Decision Making: Exercises sound judgment and works effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Leadership: Ability to train and mentor underwriters, underwriting assistants, and interns.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to interpret mathematical, statistical, and market data to support underwriting decisions.
  • Technology: Proficient in or able to quickly learn underwriting and related software systems.
  • Complex Accounts: Demonstrated ability to successfully manage highly complex accounts

 

 

 

The expected salary range for this role is $85,000-$92,000.00.
