Overview

An Underwriting Auditor plays a critical role as a subject matter expert role within the audit process, driving the integrity, accuracy, and compliance of underwriting activities across the organization. The Underwriting Auditor will proactively identify trends, influence underwriting practices, and help with the development of process improvements to strengthen audit effectiveness and adherence to guidelines. This role requires advanced technical underwriting knowledge, excellent analytical capabilities, and strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively collaborate across functional areas and drive results.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze audit findings to identify trends and emerging risks; make recommendations to drive underwriting consistency and mitigate risk exposure.
  • Validate and oversee the accuracy and completeness of audit results, ensuring clarity, credibility, and actionable insights in audit reports.
  • Compile and present monthly and quarterly audit reports, including countrywide audits, annual scorecards, and underwriter performance rankings.
  • Partner with Underwriting Leadership to interpret findings and deliver insights to drive underwriting behavior and continuous improvement.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact and trusted advisor to Underwriting teams, Product, Risk Quality, and other partners for audit-related matters.
  • Partner with process owners to refine audit methodology and improve audit efficiency and impact.
  • Maintain expert knowledge of company underwriting guidelines, authorities, rating engines, and appetite criteria for all lines of business.
  • Provide back-up support for the post-bind process and contribute to process optimization initiatives.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to streamline audit workflows and drive efficiencies.
  • Stay abreast of market, regulatory, and industry trends that may impact underwriting guidelines or audit processes.
  • Proactively recommend adjustments to audit methodology and underwriting practices in response to market demands.
  • Perform additional functionally related duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of multi-line underwriting experience (Workers' Compensation, CPP) with strong technical and product knowledge.
  • Proven audit and/or quality assurance experience preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of Workers’ Compensation and ISO coverages, forms, and guidelines.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and lead complex audits.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with ability to synthesize and present findings to various levels of leadership.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other audit and data analytics tools.


Preferred: 

  • Experience developing and presenting training content or audit findings to Underwriting teams and leadership.
  • Familiarity with SQL and/or strong aptitude and desire to expand knowledge in data analysis and reporting tools.
  • Experience influencing underwriting best practices and driving process improvement initiatives.

The expected salary range for this role is $53K-$80K/year.
