Overview

The AVP, Accounting will lead a team supporting accounting and specific operational functions across AmTrust Financial Services. The role interacts with our finance leadership team, underwriting, claims and actuarial departments to ensure the proper interpretation and recognition of complex financial agreements. The salary range for this role is $180,000 - 200,000 annually. This range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in Jersey City, NJ. Base pay offered may vary depending on, but not limited to education, experience, skills, geographic location, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics. This range may be modified in the future.

 

This role will be expected to work a hybrid schedule (3 days a week in office, 2 days remote) out of any of the following AmTrust office locations: Boca Raton, FL; Southington, CT; Jersey City, NJ. 

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

1. Assist in managing the accounting team in performing close related tasks, including ensuring all close activities are identified and scheduled in accordance with closing priorities in adherence to the corporate close calendar.

2. Support the quarterly and annual U.S. Statutory and U.S. GAAP financial reporting for balances and disclosures. Prepare and/or coordinate the preparation of US Statutory Combined statement and analytics on balances for presentation to senior management.

3. Help lead and support the Canada branch finance team on close related activities including but not limited to journal entry, reconciliation and statement review.

4. Support efforts to ensure efficiency and consistency in the quarterly/annual close process.

5. Support adherence to the company's framework of internal controls, including driving the design and execution of related controls.

6. Work closely with financial controller group, internal and external audit on transactions and reconciliation of balances in the ledger.

7. Prioritize and address various broad and individual projects, process improvement and transformation initiatives as they arise.

8. Position has high visibility at departmental senior management level and interacts with various levels of internal and external individuals and organizations, as well as with regional teams (reinsurance placement (ceded Re), finance controllers, actuarial, treasury, claims, legal, systems, etc.), product line management.

9. Expected to create alignment through thought leadership, critical thinking, direction/context setting and stakeholder communications.

10. Manage staff by setting individual and team goals; with a strong focus on developing and mentoring others ensuring individuals gain in-depth knowledge of accounting activities.

11. Keeps current with market trends and demands.

12. Performs other functionally related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

· Extensive insurance industry experience; managing and leading others; 12+ years of progressive accounting experience in the insurance industry.

· Bachelor’s degree in accounting.

· Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage workload to meet assigned deadlines in fast-paced environment

· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills that highlights the individual’s ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management and third parties to maximize performance by improving current processes or implementing new processes as deemed necessary

· Excellent Excel skills

· Working knowledge of ERP systems (Oracle GL preferred)

 

Preferred:

· Big 4 experience preferred

· CPA or MBA
