Overview

As a summer associate, you will be introduced to the skills necessary for a successful insurance accounting career at AmTrust North America by working closely with our direct and ceded insurance accounting teams. Throughout this internship, you will build a foundational background and robust overview of different lines of business within Finance. You will interact with various stakeholders to learn multiple facets of the insurance accounting and financial process as well as participate in weekly professional development and training workshops.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare journal entries for direct and ceded general ledger transactions, including preparation of supporting schedules
  • Prepare and/or coordinate the preparation of analytics on balances for presentation to team management
  • Prepare account reconciliations for balance sheet accounts, ensuring the reconciliations are supported by robust documentation and any reconciling items are fully identified
  • Assists in the timely preparation of deliverables needed for the quarterly financial statements
  • Assist with financial transformation initiatives / projects currently in flight in the finance group
  • Prepare external Broker/Reinsurer reporting and billing including cession statements and premium and loss bordereaux
  • Work with external business partners (Brokers / Reinsurers / Agencies) to settle open receivable / payable balances
  • Performance of controls necessary to adhere to the framework of internal controls
  • Assist with internal/external audit requests and participate in process walkthroughs (i.e. review of controls/process flows) with internal and external auditors

Qualifications

Required:

 

  • Accounting major with the goal of becoming a future CPA that is able to demonstrate basic knowledge of financial accounting
  • Effective interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to provide information in a clear, concise manner with an appropriate level of detail and professionalism
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships
  • Effective problem-solving skills and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
  • Effective analytical skills to gather information, analyze facts, and draw conclusions
  • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA; additional requirements may apply

Preferred:

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (excel, word, PowerPoint)

 

This role is hybrid out of Jersey City, NJ and is compensated at $25/hr.
