Overview

This is a remote position with primary responsibilities for conducting multi-line desktop quality control reviews of risk assessment reports. Will utilize internet and electronic tools to perform reviews of risk assessment of insured premises and operations. We perform recommendation compliance reviews, answer technical questions/concerns via phone, e-mail, and/or from underwriting and Risk Control staff. May complete research and special projects, such as white papers, as assigned. All work is completed in accordance with AmTrust North America corporate risk and Risk Control Program(s) guidelines and procedures. This position reports to the Vice President of Loss Control.

Responsibilities

Primary Duties

  • Conduct desktop Risk Control quality control reviews to ensure the risk assessment reports properly determine potential hazards and risk factors to considered in underwriting, risk selection and pricing.
  • Ensure technical reports provide a clear assessment of exposures and controls, and the risk mitigation solutions are appropriate.
  • Complete reviews of recommendation compliance responses and provide status updates to internal and external customers on a timely basis.
  • Provides technical advice and support for internal business partners (Underwriting, Claims and Loss Control), and external partners (Policyholders, Agents, and Brokers) as needed.
  • Take part in peer-to-peer quality review processes to maintain consistent product within the department.
  • Develop and maintain productive “ambassador-type” relationships with both internal and external business partners.
  • Manage assigned work to meet deadlines.
  • Maintain current knowledge of regulatory environment and emerging safety issues.
  • Other duties as assigned.

SKILLS NEEDED TO SUCCEED:

  • College degree (4-year degree or higher) preferably in fire protection and/ or safety & health field of studies; may be offset by work experience in insurance industry or loss control.
  • Have five or more years of experience in insurance industry, or equivalent, in lieu of above.
  • Risk management designation(s), studies, or work experience in insurance and/ or Risk Control are desirable, with working knowledge of NFPA standards.
  • Knowledge of primary exposures, hazards, and appropriate controls as they relate to property, liability, motor vehicles and workers compensation risk management.
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and SharePoint.
  • Ability to work with internet searches (Google, Google Maps, Google Earth, OSHA, FMCSA DOT SMS, ISO E&S, On-Line GIS Mapping, and tax assessor websites) and AmTrust Systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience building credibility with internal and external customers.
  • Detail oriented with the ability to work autonomously with little direct supervision; continually assess workload considering business priorities; direct own efforts accordingly.
  • Must be a team player who enjoys a fast-paced business and entrepreneurial environment.

Qualifications

TECHNICAL EXPERTISE

  • Must have 5 years’ experience providing Risk Control services and risk management to all major P&C lines.
  • Have 3 years’ experience handling/coordinating complex risks.
  • Possesses a strong understanding of both Property & Casualty lines of coverage.
  • Advanced Risk Control Accreditations preferred but may be offset with work experience in Risk Control.
  • College degree (4-year degree or higher) preferred in Safety & Health but may be offset by work experience in Risk Control.
  • Must be able to work remotely, and at times travel extensively.
  • Ability to analyze loss information to identify root causes and develop loss sensitive recommendations.
  • Provide input to underwriting to help leverage marketing opportunities (primarily related to prospective policyholders).
  • Able to work autonomously with minimal supervision; continually assesses workload while considering business priorities; and directs own efforts accordingly.
  • Understands self-limitations and knows when it is proper to escalate an issue to management, or to collaborate with others on technical questions/issues.

 

PHYSICAL CAPABILITIES

  • Must be able to drive, with a valid drivers’ license in good standing.
  • Must have a vehicle in good physical and working condition for business travel purposes, with lawfully needed insurance coverage.
  • Must be able to climb ladders and stairs, as well as transition to and from ladders or stairs to access building roof areas and upper or lower floors within a risk’s site during surveys.
  • Can navigate through risk’s sites in a safe manner, which may include but not limited to manufacturing areas, warehouses, storage yards, construction sites, low light conditions, which may present walking/working surfaces that are uneven, unstable, wet, icy, and/or covered with debris.
  • Must have the ability to work in variety of exposures from extreme outdoor/indoor conditions (heat, snow, cold, rain, etc.).
