Overview

AmTrust Financial Services, a fast-growing commercial insurance company, is currently seeking a Claims Director in Complex Commercial Trucking Liability. This position requires previous supervisory experience. The successful candidate will supervise a team of claims professional handling Commercial Trucking bodily injury claims, including coaching and technical development of their direct reports on coverage, liability investigation, evaluation of damages, settlement strategy, and litigation management. These claims arise in various jurisdictions throughout the country and, as such, experience in multiple states is required.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and oversees a team handling complex commercial trucking liability bodily injury claims.
  • Assigns new claims to team members based on the complexity and skill set of the staff.
  • Oversees the handling of all aspects of the claims assigned to the team including reserving, communication, documentation, litigation management, evaluation, negotiation and settlement.
  • Ensures high-quality customer service and advocating excellence by exceeding stakeholder expectations.
  • Completes regular management reviews and quality audits of claims to ensure work meets or exceeds standards and that claims processing is consistent with applicable policies, procedures, and department guidelines.
  • Regularly participate in claims roundtable discussions focusing on claims issues surrounding coverage, liability and assessment of damages.
  • Manages personnel administration including employee evaluations and performance.
  • Establish a transparent, accountable, and growth-focused environment.
  • Prepares regular periodic reports and monitors system reports to ensure adherence to corporate and regulatory standards.
  • Reviews and analyzes processes, procedures and workflows to identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency.
  • Other tasks as assigned by Assistant Vice President/Vice President.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience leading liability insurance claims teams.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in bodily injury claims with a trucking focus.
  • Extensive experience with full-cycle claim litigation.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Valid claims adjuster’s license in appropriate jurisdictions or ability to obtain such.
  • Thorough understanding of tort and contract laws, principles of coverage, and liability insurance in general.
  • Ability to manage a diverse group of claims professionals located in multiple offices.
  • Ability to mentor, train, and be a leader within the organization.
  • Ability to plan, organize, delegate, and develop direct reports.
  • Ability to synthesize and draw conclusions from large amounts of data; translates the data into actions and results.
  • Embraces changes; invites feedback related to performance and deals constructively with criticism.
