Technical Claims Director, Construction Defect

Will lead our Construction Defect claims team in providing effective claims handling, serving as SME or decision maker on escalated matters or complex projects, monitoring results and supporting the adoption and generation of improvements.  This position reports to the AVP of Construction Defect.  




  • Serve as a technical lead in the development and execution of claim handling guidelines, standards and operating procedures specific to construction defect exposures.
  • Identify improvement opportunities in adherence to claim best practices, loss costs and regulatory compliance. Develop and oversee adherence to improvement plans to meet corporate goals and objectives.
  • Complete claim handling special studies and targeted reviews as required
  • Act as an escalation point on file handling and customer service issues
  • Serve as a technical training lead on jurisdictional, medium and complex subject matters
  • Serve as a technical SME on complex projects and initiatives
  • Monitor metrics and manage loss costs
  • Provide file handling guidance and reserve and settlement authority to field office staff
  • Ensures compliance with the company’s claim management best practices, performance standards, policies and procedures focusing on customer needs and expectations
  • Investigates, analyzes and introduces process improvements and procedures to enhance workflow to improve the overall quality and efficiency of the team
  • Provides leadership and career development to all staff levels to support organization succession planning
  • Responsible for the quality of work performed throughout the zone including timeliness, accuracy and adherence to company policies and procedures
  • Possess jurisdictional knowledge of rules and regulations. Analyze, interpret and apply laws pertaining to workers’ compensation.


  • 7+years claim handling experience with a proficiency in complex construction defect claims
  • Experience with complex coverage forms (preferable to have experience with non-admitted forms)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated leadership to interact collaboratively and work effectively with a multi-functional team and throughout the organization; fosters an environment of shared responsibility and accountability
  • Advanced analytical skills
  • Ability to prepare presentation documents and present to senior leadership
  • Advanced computer skills to include Microsoft Products
  • Proven ability to manage organizational change, to involve and influence others to accept new ideas or innovative approaches, to lead in a team based organization
  • Ability to develop reports, metrics and improvement plans
  • Serve as a knowledge source for adjusters


BA/BS college degree preferred. Knowledge and skills acquired through undergraduate studies in the areas of finance, insurance, management or business administration a plus

CPCU, ARM, AIC designations, adjuster licensing or other industry training programs a plus
